I’m Joy Alunga, a born creative innovator with over seven years of experience as a graphic designer, animator, visual development artist, and media host. My expertise spans corporate identity design, animation, motion graphics, and website development.
Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of working with renowned brands like Kugali (UK), where I contributed to Iwájú in partnership with Disney. I’ve also collaborated with DoubleTree by Hilton, Starkey, and Brand Kenya, D&R Studios, working on productions like The Real Housewives of Nairobi and Ctrl Z Show among others. .
I also serve as the Kugali Media East Africa Ambassador, where I work to amplify African storytelling and animation across the region.
My skill set includes 2D and 3D Animation, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, Adobe After Effects, Adobe Premiere Pro, Maya, HTML5, and Snapchat Lenses. Beyond design, I am passionate about growing the creative industry. I have taught part-time at the Nairobi Institute of Technology for about 3 years and served in the office of the Association of Animation Artists Kenya. I’ve also been a jury member for prestigious awards, including the Kalasha Film Festival (2020) and the 95th Oscar Committee Kenya (2022).
In 2024, I expanded into TV and film hosting, starting with moderating a panel at Nairobi Comic Con on Unlocking the Potential of African Animation and hosting at D&R Studios.
On March 6, 2025, I was honored to receive the Zuri Award in the Arts, Culture, and Entertainment category. The Zuri Awards recognize and celebrate exceptional women who are making a significant impact in their industries and communties, and I am grateful to be acknowledged among such inspiring changemakers. And in 2026 I get to sit in the Zuri awards judges table.
When I’m not designing, hosting, or collaborating with brands, you’ll find me drawing, capturing moments through photography and videography, or enjoying painting sessions with close friends.
